Calling all makers

Five commissions of £7,500 each are to be awarded to artists to create new work from Jerwood Visual Arts (JVA). Artists from across all making disciplines are invited to submit proposals for Jerwood Makers Open.

The five commissions by emerging artists working in the applied arts will be be exhibited as part of the JVA programme at the Jerwood Space, London in summer 2012 before touring the UK. Artists will be chosen by an independent selection panel and must be UK resident and within 10 years of graduating or setting up their practice. The closing date for entries is 7 November 2011.

This is the second year of Jerwood Makers Open which offers makers at the early stages in their careers an opportunity to develop their creative ideas without a specific commission. It’s predecessors were the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize which was run in partnership with the Crafts Council for 11 years and the Jerwood Contemporary Makers exhibition series
