Words from the artist Chris Hall:
“Pouring Light plays on our daily habits of wasting electricity by equating light with water. Pulling on the rope tips the bucket and the light turns on gradually. The more rope is pulled, the more the bucket tilts and the stronger the light gets. When the rope is threaded back up, the light dims. Each bucket is an independent and controllable light source which can be used in various environments. Its simple and familiar materials, together with its adjustable brightness and projection angle, creates the perfect ambience for any setting. For this installation, 30 light buckets performed together to create an interactive field of light – an inviting space for people to enter and play, pouring out light in different volumes, angles and colours. With a custom edited soundtrack, the hall was painted and repainted in reds and oranges as different visitors pulled and threaded their chosen ropes to alter the mood of the space.”
