Z-mode: Eco Friendly Couture

Not many people know this, because she usually doesn’t use her whole name, but the Z in Z-mode comes from Victoria Rangayah’s first name Zigmante. Mode stands for state of mind/fashion.

Victoria creates beautiful Eco friendly couture. Having studied design in South Africa and worked as a designer for big manufacturing company, she wanted to create something of her own. She launched Z-Mode in 2010 with its debut SS 11 collection; it was very well received and she’s gone from strength to strength since then.

Being an ecological designer is not easy, the fabrics come at premium prices and sometimes it’s not commercially viable to produce Eco fashion – the industry is making it hard for the designers. However, Victoria has a strong passion for sustainable designs and tries her best to incorporate recycled and up-cycled fabrics in her designs and continues to use more and more Eco material in her future collections.

When I ask her about about her dreams and inspirations, her answer couldn’t be more inspiring:”My dreams were always big. I believe everyone has a right to dream big. If you do dream you may as well dream big! I love what I do and that is most important, everything else will fall into place.”

Quite a few celebrities have worn her designs already and she would love to see Nicole Scherzinger wearing her clothes, as she is an icon and inspiration to Victoria. She can also see Rebecca Ferguson in Z-mode and thinks she would looks amazing in the designs. When she is designing, she creates clothes for herself, things she’d like to wear at one point or another. “If you don’t believe you can wear your own clothes, what makes you think other people will,” she says.

2012 is set to be the biggest year for the label yet. Victoria is very excited about her upcoming AW collection (so am I) and she’s also working on a bridal collection as well as fulfilling bespoke orders. How she manages all that plus looking after her two children I don’t know! But her passion shines through. And guess what? That’s not just it. When I asked her if she’s planning on designing accessories too, she let me in on a secret. Yes I could read her mind. They are coming in a very near future, in Eco designs no doubt. You read it here first! I can’t wait to see it all and wish her best of luck with everything.
