There is fun to be had with a wall lamp

Ever fancied an arrow that lit up and pointed the way to the kitchen or the bathroom in the middle of the night, saving you from switching on the lights and blinding yourself? Or  could you use a glowing sign with a toilet or frying pan on it, indicating which room is which to help you differentiate between them when your brain is a bit fuzzy?

With the flashboard, an innovative LED-backlit wall lamp from Swiss designers Puzzle Design, you could have hours of fun leading others astray in the dark. The aluminium board contains hundreds of little holes which can be plugged with silicone caps to create an outline or an image. The idea, I think, is that if you run a night club or a bar, you can buy a load of them and create the signs you need rather than having to commission individual signs.

But a much more fun application would be to install a few around the house, show them to guests who come to stay, emphasising how useful they are for the dark and after they’ve gone to bed, move all the silicone caps around to create new signs, swapping the kitchen with the bathroom or the bedrooms with the back door. Or you could put one on the living room wall and use it to entertain the family with a picture form of charades. Or you could be a Billy-no-mates and just have hours of fun on your own, creating new pictures and changing the colour of the lights.

The possibilities are endless!
