Job Description

Short-term Editorial Assistant

Fixed term freelance contract until 26th March

Salary: £TBA per week

About:

Futurespace Magazine is multi-platform magazine with a distinctive voice and distinguished appeal. Established in its current form in 2011 and based in the UK with an international reach, Futurespace Magazine attracts a global audience interested in style, substance, trends and global issues. Covering art and cars to fashion and travel, plus everything that’s cutting edge, quirky or quintessentially ‘Futurespace’ in between, we help our readers push the boundaries in their lives.

Talking about our readers, they’re both male and female, trans-generational types who have a palpable hankering for life. They might be creatives and freelancers who live and breathe art and design, or suits and city types who accessorise their lives with the latest technologies and weekend travel plans. They are internationally modernist, with a uniquely British sensitivity.

Futurespace Magazine is launching its first bi-annual print magazine in April 2012 and requires a short-term editorial assistant to help meet our print deadline.

Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the editorial director, the editorial assistant will support all editorial activities required in order to launch the magazine. This may include:

gathering editorial information, images and content, including liaising with PR representatives and companies to locate this information;

sub-editing and checking editorial information is correct, from website urls and prices to factual information;

proof-reading;

liaising with freelance writers and creatives to ensure work is delivered to time and on spec, ensuring they also sign and return publication rights agreements;

some copy-writing and summarising content;

some picture editing;

various administrative tasks;

any other assistance for the editorial director and Futurespace Magazine’s other channels.

Person specification

This is a short-term, home-based position requiring a person motivated to hit the ground running and use their own initiative. Work will be intensive and the editorial assistant must be prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure, with the team, that the magazine is delivered on time. Should the successful candidate prove themselves sufficiently, they will be considered for a full time position after the launch of the print magazine.

Email your CV and covering letter (one page maximum) to Sasha Arms, Editorial Director of Futurespace Magazine, by midday on Wednesday 8th February 2012:
